This Dog Was Abandoned By His Owners Because of His Appearance

It’s no secret that dogs are man’s best friend. Between their loyalty and their ability to make us feel better in the worst of moments just by curling up to us and cuddling, there are few people who dislike dogs.

There are many varieties of dogs and they are all unique in their own way. But it isn’t really their looks we fall in love with and cherish for life. I mean, yes, of course, we all think our dogs are the cutest thing in the world but their personalities and love for us have more to do with that than anything.

Unfortunately, there are people in the world who are completely shallow and would look over a dog because they don’t find them to be perfectly cute. That’s what happened to poor Beaux Tox. He is the most happy-go-lucky dog around and always brings forth a wagging tail and big smile. Sadly, Beaux deals with a deformity that makes his face very different from other doggies.

Sweet, Sweet Beaux

How can you not love that smile!?

There are some shallow people in the world that wouldn’t adopt this sweet babe because of his face but once Jamie Hulit saw his face, she fell in love.

“A friend of mine posted a picture of Beaux on Facebook saying he needed a foster or to be adopted — anything,” Hulit noted. “That day I sent him a message saying, ‘I would love to take that dog in and give him a home.’”

He’s Just Loving Every Minute of Life

And who can blame him?

For such a happy dog, Beaux has really had a rough go of things. Early in life, he faced the struggle of being pretty crowded in his mama’s belly. Because of the limited room to grow, as his mother had 6 other puppies in her belly, he developed a “sunken cranium” and very closed set eyes.

“He just kind of got pushed out of the way, and formed how he formed,” Hulit said, “but it has nothing to do with his intelligence.” In fact, upon receiving an MRI, it was discovered that Beaux would have no problems with intellectual issues or everyday life activities. He had the ability to live a perfectly healthy life and he’s doing just that!

This Babe Has Nothing but Love to Give

And he’s got it written all over his sweet face

Due to his facial deformity, it was difficult for his breeders to sell him to a potential owner. “Because of his facial deformity, the people who were breeding couldn’t sell him,” Hulit explained. “So they gave him away for free.”

An Austin man took Beaux in and named him Lucky. However, after a bit of time had passed, the man’s cats began to not get along with sweet Beaux. Upon realizing this, the man sent Beaux to live in the backyard where he spent the next 5 years completely isolated outside. He was neglected, malnourished, and didn’t even have so much as a dog bed to lie on.

Still Smiling No Matter What

You would never even know Beaux had a tough life because he’s just so happy!

Local shelters tried desperately to intervene and give Beaux the life he deserved but were unsuccessful. Finally, Hulit went to his home and found the poor pup, severely malnourished, covered in fleas, and completely neglected. Suddenly, everything else did not matter; Beaux’s looks or health problems alike. Hulit just wanted to get this dog out of this terrible environment and to a place where he would truly be loved.

Beaux When Hulit First Saw Him

How can you do something like this to your dog!?

“At that point, I didn’t care how badly he might be ill,” Hulit said. “I just didn’t want him to go into the foster system again and be returned.”

Perhaps this situation hit close to home for Hulit because, she too, was a product of the foster system since a young age and constantly passed around from home to home with no real place to call her home.

Beaux is Just So Perfect!

THAT FACE

Hulit explained, “I wanted him to have stability and a place he knew was his home. That is why I adopted him outright from the owner. Beaux Tox had already bounced around and I just wanted him to be a dog.”

When Hulit brought Beaux to the vet to get things checked out, she learned how bad they actually were, she learned that his chances of survival were actually very slim. He was suffering from heartworms and they have the potential to completely destroy a dog’s organs. It was determined by the doctor, Dr. Jay Rydberg, that Beaux had only a 50% chance of surviving. However, Hulit never gave up hope. In fact, she had made the promise to herself that she would never give up until Beaux was healthy again.

What a Loving Little Man

How can that possibly NOT warm your heart!? Is that even possible!?

Beaux Battled His Health Issues for Awhile

But his mama never left his side and never gave up on him.

At the beginning of his treatment and recovery, Beaux was hooked up to an oxygen machine and there were many close calls where things looked pretty bad. Hulit and Dr. Rydberg stayed by Beaux’s side throughout it all and supported him when he needed it most. Beaux refused to give up and continued to fight.

Dr.Rydberg and Beaux

Such an amazing duo, don’t you think?

Finally, after months of battling and overcoming his many conditions, Beaux began to get healthy and gain most of his weight back! He has some lasting problems such as a loss of hearing in his left ear and some vision issues but he is a very healthy dog overall.

“There are people who will pay high dollar for a dog’s papers, and I feel like I paid for his health certificate,” Hulit said. “But I am 100 percent OK with that, knowing that he is now a happy, free guy.”
